Most of our pond and water garden renovation work is carried out on ponds around 10 years older or more.
Current butyl liners carry a lifetime guarantee but the liners that were available 10 years ago were not the high quality liners that are currently available. Many of these old liners are now brittle and cracks soon lead to water loss.
If you are looking for a new or renovated pond, beware of companies offering you inferior thin pond liners. When exposed to the sun, these will soon warp and crack.
Repair kits are available but the only 'watertight' solution is to use a branded butyl liner such as the Firestone 1mm butyl liner.
These liners are not cheap but they do carry a lifetime guarantee and as such you should never need to replace the liner again.
